And then it was time to build turnouts

Turnouts for Thusis using the proven method on 1/2” pressure treated plywood.

Almost done.

Scenery work at Bergün

To bring the existing terrain level to the required height i.e. the established track level, called for a lot of additional rock, gravel and crusher.

A lot of the crusher neede placing prior to the rapidly approaching Winter.

A small addition at Seedorf

Summer 2014

It is known to happen that “finished” plans require a small adjustment. That was the case as I installed the tracks at Thusis and Bergün. While doing that I was thinking about the logical traffic patterns along the line.

And then ..... it became clear that meets at Seedorf would be impossible as soon as a  LCL or other car would be taking up Track 1. Add to that the less than direct alignment using Track 2 as the passing track.

In other words a proper freight track was in order, move the planned station to the East. The added freight track becomes Track1, Track 2 ist straight through and Track 3 is the passing siding. The old trackage first and then the new arrangement

Since one is adding/changing why not go the extra steps and a bit extra. The prototypes freight traffic in the upper Albula Valley is minimal, in which case a fictional location like Seedorf is just what the doctor ordered. “It could have been” is the scenario; very similar to what in HOm was called “Alvaschein” and wasn’t found on the prototype.

Track 1 will access the freight shed (part of the station building) as well as the adjacent loading ramp, a bit farther along the track will be a transfer crane. Similar to what used to be at Surava and Tiefencastel. All this means that Seedorf will be a busy spot with a lot of switching. The perfect justification for the Tm 2/2 diesel tractor.
