The good, the bad and the ugly of 3D printing

Upgrades to the Anycubic Chiron

Postby HJM » Sat Oct 12, 2019 10:32 am

The usual rule is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!" but every rule has exceptions!
Started a few larger prints on the Chiron and noticed that some of the cabling would benefit from proper routing. So looked for the suitable STL files on Thingiverse, since I don't want to reinvent the wheel or extras on printers if someone did the work already.

Might as well get the extras ready and installed.
SWMBO will be off to Japan real early tomorrow - flight leaves Kelowna at 07:05. Was supposed to leave yesterday, but the flight got cancelled because of that whopper of a typhoon hitting Tokyo.
Just looked at some of the pictures. Oh dear is just the start. :-o :-o

Anyway, it will be quiet around the house for two weeks and a lot of printing will be running day and night. ;) ;) :D At least that's the plan. :-$ :-$ Murphy isn't supposed to hear. :-$ :-$
Cheers

More cables to be sorted; printed the holders for a set of daylight LEDs that arrived yesterday. The more light the better. Now I need more stand-offs to route those wires.

This could become a hobby in its own right!

I am behind with some printing jobs due to traverser / rewiring and Rocrail control taking over a bit but hope to get back on track in a couple of weeks when family commitments are over, back down to Bristol next week.

Whats in danger of complication, SWMBO has bought a Cricut Maker for her quilting projects but is quite happy for me to use it with my own blade and mat. Looks like it has huge possibilities as well!

In danger of having too many toys. That's me not you of course :)

Yes Jim :D :D

I will certainly not mention the Cricut Maker to SWMBO. She has no more room! :D

There was at least one complaint that scratch building will fade away with 3D printing filling in more and more. I pointed out that 3D printers are just tools like so many others and that the "How, When and What" was enough of a challenge.

On too many toys; well ..... according to SWMBO that certainly applies to me. But I'm careful as far as adding other hobbies goes. O:-) O:-)

BTW came across an interesting video that finally made the penny drop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIkT8asT90A
Which of course made me wonder why the values in some slicers don't match that system.
Multiples of 0.04mm should be easy enough to figure out. Hurray! B-) B-)
Cheers

Very interesting video and explanation of layers in relation to pitch, must explore that aspect although its not been an issue for me, wonder if Cura defaults are set related to the Ultimaker?
