That is pretty cool...something I'd really like to build someday is a hi-rail version of an excavator like that...have a little hi-rail work train that can move along, do some mowing or ditching...
I keep looking at all the Bruder (think that's the name) plastic Cat toys and thinking about doing r/c conversions...but I've got too many yellow projects on the list as it is.

I've got a small forklift which I use to load some haik cars. It needs a bit of space to turn, but is lots of fun to mess around with. It can also be used to load low side gons of flat cars. With a rokenbok warehouse, you have racks you can store pallets on and load your train. great thing at an operating session for crew that isn't running a train: load or unload a car.
The dirt movers also look like great fun and another branch of the hobby. The plastic ones are too breakable, but the actual metal ones are quite powerful. Though they tend to be over scale. Unless you are thinking of them as those really huge loaders like you see at recycling depots. Those would be fun to load up the fads with.
